High Frequency Words
It is important for your child's reading and writing development that they can quickly read and spell the first 100 high frequency words. Please support your child at home by regularly playing games using these words. Useful games are word spotting, word bingo, snap, painting words, chalking words, word searches, finding words around the room, finding words in newspapers, corners (where a selection of words are written on paper, you call a word and the child runs to it) and asking your child to look at a word, cover it up, write it then check the spelling is correct.
Websites such as Phonics Play and BBC schools have games to support recall of the first 100 tricky words. Once your child is secure with the first 100 words, you may like to move on to the next 200.
Thank you for your continued support.
