Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)
Cheadle Heath Primary School is an unashamedly inclusive school where all are welcome. We celebrate diversity and champion equality. Everybody who enters our school is expected to behave in a way which respects the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.
What is the Public Sector Equality Duty (the PSED)?
As a result of the 2010 Act, it is unlawful to discriminate against someone on the grounds of any of these characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion/belief, sex (gender) and sexual orientation. These are often referred to as protected characteristics.
Legislation and Guidance:
Public bodies, including local-authority-maintained schools, are covered by the public sector equality duty in the The Equality Act 2010, which introduced the public sector equality duty and protects people from discrimination, and the The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, which require schools to publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the public sector equality duty and to publish equality objectives.
At Cheadle Heath Primary School, we take this obligation seriously and ensure that all pupils can take part as fully as possible in every aspect of school life. We identify any barriers to learning that learners may have and work to overcome these so that each individual can fulfil their potential.
This document is also based on the Department for Education (DfE) guidance: The Equality Act 2010 and schools.
We strive to:
Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

Objective 2: To raise awareness of equality & diversity ensuring that the values of 'Aspire Believe Achieve' ensure that nobody is disadvantaged by any of the protected characteristics
Objective 3: Ensure tolerance and respect towards individuals who identify with any of the protected characteristics
Objective 4: To raise awareness of the protected characteristics within the school by having an annual whole-school focus. This year’s focus is 'Neurodiversity'; thus developing an awareness and understanding of diversity in the school and UK
Objective 5: To close gaps in attainment and achievement between pupils and all groups of pupils i.e. boys & girls, Pupil Premium, SEND and LAC
