Music

We have earned ourselves a very good local reputation for music and we firmly believe that music is a creative and social art to be embraced and enjoyed by all. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing tuned and un-tuned percussion. We employ specialist music teachers to teach instrumental music lessons and give pupils the best opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in this area.  We have a school brass band which performs on a regular basis, the highlight of the year being their public performance at the Stockport Music Showcase at the Royal Northern College of Music.  We take children on an annual basis to the ‘Come and Play with the Halle‘ concert which gives them a wonderful opportunity to play alongside this national treasure. Scroll down to see a snippet of our talented musicians at the concert.

In 2015 – 16, Year 4 pupils are all being given the opportunity to learn a brass instrument.  Following whole class teaching, pupils are given the opportunity to audition to continue playing an instrument in school time.  Pupils are offered weekly tuition in wind, string, brass and percussion via Stockport Music Service, and these lessons are currently funded by school although a £25 contribution is requested for the instrument hire and incidentals.   Guitar and ukulele lessons are offered by Fidler Music from Reception (summer term) to Year 6 at a subsidised cost. We are also fortunate to experience live music through concerts and our annual Music Extravaganza.

Curriculum music is progressively introduced, discussed and understood. Where possible, a cross-curricular approach is adopted in promotion of a skills based curriculum. All children are encouraged to respond to music in a variety of ways, including written work, dance and art.

We currently offer the following instrumental lessons:

  • Percussion: Mr Peter Fitchett
  • Violin: Ms Felicity Wood
  • Brass: Mr John Hulme
  • Brass ensembles: Mr John Hulme
  • Guitar: Mr Mike Bray
  • Woodwind: Ms Anna Marie
  • Band: After school on Thursday led by Mr Hulme & Miss Dickson
