Free School Meals

It is crucial that if you eligible for free school meals, regardless of whether you take up this entitlement, you register for Free School Meals.

How does it work?

1. First, check if you are eligible. If you are in receipt of Income Support, Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance, Income related Employment Support Allowance or the Guarantee part of Pension Credit or if you have an annual income (as assessed by the HM Revenue & Customs) of less than £16,190 each year (but not Working Tax Credit) you will be eligible for Free School Meals.

2. If you think you qualify, contact Ms Stronach in the office or Stockport Town Hall or, alternatively, click here for an application form and to be directed to the free school meals website.

3. If you want your child to have a free, healthy meal at lunchtime that’s great – they will get the free meal (saving you more that £370 a year), the extra benefits mentioned above and the school gets £600 extra.

4. If you don’t want your child to have the school meals they can continue as normal – as long as you qualify and are registered, the school still gets £600 extra funding and your child could receive extra support in school.

Please note

  • If your child does not attend a Stockport school, you must make your claim for Free School Meals with the Authority who is educating your child.
  • We cannot provide free meals to children until it has been authorised by the Council.
